Can Irises be divided and set out now? How deep and how far apart ?

    Irises should not be divided until the fall.

    Janet is right. And when you divide them, be sure the riznom (bulb-like ) is just under the soil.....Dig a hole, then fill the hole with loose dirt....put the roots in the soft soil with the risnom (spelling is wrong, I am sure) just under the surface. The iris probably will not bloom the first year but after that should be fine. I would put two risnoms close together and others spaced about 3 to 5 inches around it.....remember as they grow they will be crowded and have to be divided again.

    They like to be crowded and don't be alarmed when they push up out of the soil a bit. They will bloom the first year only if they are L shaped new sets will not.
