Alot of sun and water
Clematis is actually pretty easy. Don't use too much mulch. Do NOT cut it back! It grows on dead growth from the previous year. Give it something like a lattice to go UP onto. And lastly, John's suggestion is great: water it and locate it in sun. Good luck!
