I always cut my roses just below the five leaf cluster and they will continue blooming.
I also trim my roses above the V line (split). After the roses die off, I gently clip the dead roses on an angle. This allows air flow. They will continue blooming given you water on a regular basis and you can also add some bone meal to your soil. Good Luck!
The correct way to dead head a rose if to cut below the flower and above the first leaflet at 45 degree angle.
Cut at a 45 degree angle, just above the first five-leaf set that is facing in the direction you want the shoot to grow.
