I grow Swiss Chard, they come in red, green, and yellow. It needs full Sun, and I use the shiny large leaves it in my recipes or salads.
you can grow anything except vine plants because they will eventually smother out other plants...I plant tomatoes and peppers all the time and my herbs...have even puts some beets and carrots in.
Some veggies you can grow in your flower bed are kale (which resembles Elephant Ears), snap peas (they get a pretty flower), cherry tomatoes, herbs such as dill, fennel, chive or purple basil. You can also grow sweet potatoes in baskets set in your flower bed. Just keep an eye out for rabbits. The veggies provide good hidin g places for them and they love to snack on fresh veggies.
