How to stop drywall from getting water damaged.

The drywall around my laundry room sink is not green board. It gets soft when water splashes on it when someone is washing something big. Is there a way to waterproof the drywall without tearing it all out and putting in green board?

Put up the same stuff as kitchens . I think it's called backsplash. I comes in all kids of colors and patterns, or even just vynil adhesive shelf paper.
Apply 2 coats of Kilz2 primer, it will seal the drywall. You could also attach a sheet of plexiglass for added protection and easy cleaning. Best of luck.
