My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
It's helpful to use a bottle brush for this task. Soak it in a 1/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water for a bit and then clean with the brush. Rinse well with clean water.
If it's real small, I would use hot water only, place a small thin piece of a rag and use a wooden skewer to clean it. I personally would not use any chemicals to avoid being toxic to hummers.
Hi, I put my hummingbird feeder in the dishwasher
I have a brush, but if you don't toss in some dried beans or uncooked rice and shake shake shake with hot water and a frop of Dawn dish soap and rinse thoroughly.
Soak feeder 1 hour in 1 gallon of water and 1/4 c. bleach. Rinse well. Our local hummingbird farm recommends doing t his once a month.
I have the heat drying turned off in the dishwasher
