Great idea! Just make sure to user a good sealent!
Definately use a good sealent. The grout will be the first thing that will stain and look bad.
Absolutely! Just lay out the tiles to be sure of how they fit and use a good adhesive to attach them. Be sure to seal well so as not to get liquids or foodstuff in the seams.
you can, but really why? The space between the tiles gets gross! I have them in my home that I rent. It's just the worst possible thing ever done.

I have done this with vinyl floor tiles. We put them close together...just used a little grout to fill in the cracks. It looked really beautiful and only cost $30!!
