Hole in the wall entrance
Hello, I have this hole in the wall of the main entrance of my house and do not know what I can do?
i would add colorful pictures and take some some curtains or just fabric and create a curtain and then grab each panel in the middle and pin the middle to the wall
also maybe a colorful rug and a small little shelf with something like nicknack s or personal pictures
if u have a baby bumper u can use it as a fabric ceiling trim
u can take an old curtain rod or shower curtain rod and dangle home made decore from it like a banister i have a million ideas
im super creative let me know if u want more ideas
Lovely space! It's going to be a fun project You could consider a runner down the stairs to add some color!
try doing accent colors on the walls, maybe a darker green. the wall with the window and the wall with Good Vibes only. if you are allowed to paint the electric boxes paint them the accent color. Use a chalk board for the Good Vibes only. maybe think if some hanging plants instead of the ones on the floor, it will open up that area and you have to worry about tripping over them. if you have kids or grand kids you may want to think of getting a railing also.
How about small corner shelves for those plants? You can hang some also , but let's get them off of the floor and put a small bowl for keys and things on the top shelf next a framed photo . On "good vibes only" wall, I'd roll with that theme and look for old metal peace signs, flowers, etc. Or hey, make them out of aluminum cans. This site has many DIY projects just like that . Have fun with it .
Love the previous ideas. I'd add grab rails on both sides of steps. Pictures or sayings following slant of railing. Especially on electric side. Match size of electric panel with at least 2 more. Can use open molding frame with decorative pieces to "surround" what looks like control knobs or thermostat. If framing electric box for a "look" you would need to match that frame size. Use removable stickers on large box to change look. A saying would work especially if you frame the electric panel and make it a feature. Might need to "mat" around it before "framing" if needed to access cover opening needs. Any plant or decorative things need to Not create a fall hazard.
The wall going up the stairs on the right of the photo I would head to the thrift store and pick up a pair of curtain rod hangers, the large ones for dowel type curtain rods -hopefully you find a rod to go with it, if not, head to the building centre and buy a wooden dowel the width plus maybe 4" on either side of the two electrical boxes (measure the distance from the outside of either box and add 8"). Hang the curtain rod hangers about 6-8" from the ceiling and above the two boxes. Find a really awesome heavy scarf, piece of fabric, vintage curtain, Indian rug, Chinese silk tapestry (you get the idea) and using the curtain rings with the little clips hang what ever you choose from the rod. If you can't find the rings, get regular curtain rods and get some bull/binder clips from the dollar store, spray paint them the colour of the rings and slip them on the rings (you may need to use shower curtain rings in this instance). When looking for the textile 'art' piece look for something that will hang down to about 8" from your baseboard to keep it balanced from top to bottom. For your plants I would keep the palm in the corner but make or purchase a corner stand for it. If you can find a corner stand with an enclosed base you could store your umbrella, extra keys, dog leash etc inside. The smaller four plants I would put on floating shelves level with the centre two dividers in your window but on the same wall as the electrical boxes. Below them and level with the bottom of the window I would put a corner shelf that's scalene triangle in the same colour as the floating shelves. I would have it start on the left side of the window to go the full width of the window but start narrow and widen to the corner. You could also do the same on the other side under the floating shelves for a multi layer corner shelf. Once again it will give you surface space and interest. For the entry way to the basement on the 'good vibes' wall I would try to find an interesting plant stand to house all your plants-the bigger the better in height. On the wall that I think faces your door I would do a large positive message decal or a grouping of art pieces that fit tight to the wall. A pretty floor runner that carries the same colours as what you choose to hang on the stair wall would be beautiful!
It's a tight space, so I 'd want to keep it light. A mirror across from the window would add more light and style. I would also add some reclaimed wood - around the mirror and in other ways. The wood would really warm up the space! To me, this space could be way more personal and warm, and wood is one way to do that. I like the idea of a stair runner. A curtain is one idea, but I'm concerned it would make the area feel even smaller . But fabric would soften the space, so maybe just a sheer fabric would work. Good luck!
Reema- It is so easy to get overwhelmed, isn't it? I find that when I get overwhelmed, I start with just one thing - something that really resonates with me, no matter what others think. Trust your gut. Do what makes you happy. Too many ideas can freeze you up (they do for me). Good luck and post a photo of the before and after when you 're done!
Yup that's what I was - Overwhelmed!! and still am .. so yeah I will go ahead and start ...
