What is the most successful method of rooting hydrangeas?

Some say to put a cutting in water, some say soil, I have a cutting of a beautiful and unusual hydrangea and I'd love for it to take root.

Make a fresh cut at the end of the stem, dip into water, then into Rootone powder, then place in moist potting soil. Keep moist, but not soggy. Should be rooted in a month or so.
