The good new is its very easy to fix!
Take the tank cover off of the tank and look and see if there is any black growing on the sides. If so, take a little bleach and pour into the tank and clean off with brush. Then hold flush lever down and drain the tank. This may require several times. Don't let the water in the back of the tank gross you out . It is actually is no different than what you are drinking out of the tap. If you have or haven't any black in the back of the tank then you need to take a toilet brush and clean real good under the rim of toilet. There are holes that the water comes out of that build up that black stuff and need cleaned out. A little elbow grease may be required and this is the gross time. After done with these steps, pour some bleach into the back of tank and replace tank lid. About once every 3 months just pour some bleach into the tank and this will keep everything clean and not have this problem again. This mostly happens with old toilets and plumbing. Good luck!
Great ideas. They all work. To clean the little holes use a coffee pot or a flower frog brush to clean the small holes in anything. then you don't have to touch anything. Use cleaner on brush (bleach or ?) then rinse brush. Repeat as needed.
Drain your toilet completely...bail out the water down in the trap. Let it dry. Take a plastic mud spacula and chip it out. Try not to scratch up the porcelain because that will only attract minerals like lime and rust. The deposit will crack right off. I carefully used an old screwdriver for the nooks and crannies.
I just learned that trick this past year....
