Watch for when the leaf buds begin to swell on your rose plants, meaning the bumps on the canes get larger and reddish in color. That's when you should prune.
In the fall when the sap has gone down....trim 1/4 to 1/3....this is the Maple tree. I don't know about the Rose tree.
If the maple has branches on the roof, they could damage the shingles under windy conditions, make sure those areas are kept trimmed so they can't touch. Talk to an arborist or your local extension office for the time to trim both trees to keep your roof safe. Good luck!
Usually you're safe after first freeze. But only cut 1/3 orf plant each year
confederate rose plant is basically a rose of sharon....trim all plants when dormant if possible....always paint the wound to prevent insects from entering....any branch more than a foot close to the house needs to be removed at the trunk
Spring and Fall are the best times to prune anything. Don't prune now until the Fall. Especially the Maple tree. It will "bleed" syrup. and that's not good. Good luck. From: Cindy
best time is after first frost or before buds appear for both plants
