Apply food grade diatomaceous earth
I agree with Janet....stir up the mound and add the DE on top and around the mound. It may take 3-4 times before you do not see any ants. Each time you do this, less and less ants scurry out of the mound. I also spread dried molasses each year. Fire ants do not like the natural sugar and do not build mounds in the yard. You can also try a mixture of honey and dry yeast - spread the gooey stuff on small pieces of cardboard and place close to the mounds. The ants (this can be done with any kind of ant) will take the yeast back into the mound, where the yeast will ferment and infect the mound, killing the queen and all the eggs.
Amdro! It only takes one grain fed to the Queen to kill the entire colony. Usually works the next day.
Thank you all for the help! May the ants depart!
Food-grade Diatomatious Earth. Most insects are illiminated with that and it is not a poison.
The combination of vinegar and baking soda is a good option. Pour it or spray it. Repeat for few days. There will be a good result.
