I have an apt sized balcony with brick walls on both sides. I don't know how to hang anything let alone a garden. I don't want it to drip dirt on the balcony. Thanks

You can get hooks that are specifically for brick walls, like this one

You can buy clear plastic saucers that hang from the rim of hanging pots to catch excess water. Look for them in a nursery or home store with plants.

What if the morter is to thick and there is no space to slide that in?

You can get shepherd's hooks with bases that stand on floors. Not quite the answer to your question but it's a way of hanging plants in your space.

Home Depot has planters that you can hang over the brick.

If there is no room between the bricks, because the mortar lines are flush with the brick surface, you can drill into the mortar and use concrete screws as posts to hang things from. This is relatively easily repaired, when you leave, so no one will be the wiser. Someone at the hardware store can show you "tapcons" which are designed to be used in concrete.

If that isn't an option, how about using lattice in front of the brick. These come in 4x8' sheets, usually, but the big box stores will also cut things to size for you. You could lean it against the bricks, and hold it in place with large garden pots at the base, or you can purchase, ready to assemble, benches with tall lattice backs that would serve the same purpose.

Thank you guys! Great ideas. I like the lattice. I was wondering if 2 sided tape? What do you think?
