All the windows in my house are without panes and clear except for the most important one. Is it something that can be done DIY?
Use WD40 or silicone spray to lubricate the track.
I would use WD-40 -- the can with the long, flexible applicator. Should work very well.

Go get some teflon lube at the hardware store. It is made for this.
FIrst off, be sure there is nothing hindering the rollers at the bottom of the windows. You Have to remove the soap, as soap only attracts dirt, that will keep them sticking.
BTW! Use a level on the window, to be sure it really is level!
I prefer Silcone Lubricant over WD40. It's not as oily as WD40, and will not attract dirt.
I am going to join the Use WD-40 club or sewing machine oil if you have any.
