I have no idea how to fix it but I've had good luck with the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Maybe they can help you?
If they can't do it, check with the many computer repair places to see if they can get them off the SD card. Sometimes most can't, but there may be one that knows the trick, or maybe all of them can. It will take someone with computer skills that lay people don't have.
geek squad. have you had the card in a high heat area? are the metal bits on the backside corroded? there are photo recovery software sites/ programs on the net as well.
I have a thumb drive that quit on me - I'm lost also. Sad too - there were YEARS of pics on that thing.
Geek squad at Best Buy have saved me numerous times when I have computer issues/card issues.
Have you tried another USB port? Your old USB port might be why your SD card isn't working. But, if that doesn't help either, you should reinstall the card drivers or assign a new drive letter. If that doesn't work either, you should reach out for help from a computer specialist. I've recently got a Macbook Screen Repair at a computer/mobile repair shop, and I'm sure they could help fix your SD card. It's called ifixit4u, and the guys are really cool and know what they're doing. I hope this helps!
