We have all "popcorn" ceilings in our condo. We are 81 and 80.

It all depends on if you are a young 81 and 80 or not. Do you trust yourselves to be up on ladders reaching above your heads with tools? My Mom is 97 years young, and up until about two years ago, I would have had no problem with her up on a ladder.
Hello Granny; I do not know if you Folks are able to stand on ladders for long periods of time, and use your arms??
It is a pretty big project.

i removed popcorn ceilings
by spraying with water let it soak in and just scrap off. Messy but not too hard.
Greatgranny55 - You can do it its simple. But first you have to test for Asbestos!. No asbestos, cover the floor with plastic and the walls. Take your garden hose with a spray attachment into the house, (No leaking hose please) Next you will need a painters pole and a Drywall knife 8". You will tie wrap or tape the knife to the painters pole. (Secure ). Next you will spray the popcorn ceiling with a fine mist to wet the popcorn ceiling. Wait a few minutes for the popcorn to absorb the water. Next take the drywall knife and scrap the popcorn off the ceiling. Longer the pole the easier it will come off my walking the ceiling. All the popcorn material will fall onto the plastic. Your ceiling is now clean and ready to be primed for painting. Does this sound like a project you can tackle?
I would definitely hire someone or ask a family member to help you out. It is a messy job but totally doable. You don't want to hurt yourself doing something like this.
Totally agree with Elizabeth. Had it done at my last house. Hire or have someone help you.
Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions!
yes!
You need to be aware of asbestos in popcorn ceilings. Please do not try to remove it until you have a professional check for it.
