Toilet Seat Problem

I have tried wooden and plastic seats. I have used plastic and metal hardware for attaching the seat to my toilet. In a very short time the seats work themselves loose and wobble around. I constantly tighten the hardware but eventually it strips and I can't tighten the seat any more. Does anyone know how to fix a wobbly toilet? I'd be so grateful , I'm tired of buying new seats .

Usually it isn't the seat itself, but the wrong shape (not just round v oblong) and how it is being sat on. If you aren't sitting straight ahead, you will loosen the bolts faster. The toilet seats in my household last about a year due to my kid's inability to not slam the toilet seat down.

  • It is not you, the hardware on toilet seats are cheap and not the best quality. I still have a seat from 30 years ago that works great, the new stuff is so poorly constructed, some say on purpose to make consumers purchase the same product over again.

I always prefer a wood seat, the plastic ones are too cheapo no matter what the cost savings. As noted before, make sure you have the right size for your toilet itself, and try to sit on it as it is supposed to be used. Other than that I don't know what to suggest beyond what's been said, unless you are very heavy which would make a difference on the wear and tear of the hardware. I believe they make toilets just for people with that need. I'm not insinuating you have that need at all šŸ™‚.

I am usually tightening these up for clients all the time. Try putting some plumbers teflon tape around the threads before you tighten up. If stripped, you an buy new fastners at the hardware store, easy to change up.

I agree with Naomie. The hardware is cheap. Nylon bolts with nylon nuts. Metal worked great in the past but rusted so bad it was hard to remove. That's why they sell replacement nylon nuts and bolts. They break, loosen, thread gets damaged. Planned obsolescence is the mantra in manufacturing now a days.
