A bright shiny black would be cool. A fire engine red is fun. Or go for something fun like a lime green or a pretty lavender?
Red!
My house is gray, and here is a picture of my front door. I would say ours is a brownish color. It is west facing so the darker color does get a little hot in the summer time.
Try an eggplant or aubergine color. Very rich color but still refined and understated. Red has been done to death, in my opinion.
Though the two most popular colors for homebuyers are white and red, I think a light blue or sunny yellow would look great on a light gray house, depending on whether you want to go laid-back and calming (light blue) or bright and cheerful (yellow). Two great shades are Benjamin Moore "Wythe Blue" and Sherwin Williams "Colonial Yellow." Bonus: I once heard a realtor claim that if you want your house to sell, you should paint the door yellow.
I'm thinking primary colours: red, yellow, or blue.
I'd vote for turquoise. Found this the other day and bookmarked it for inspiration. There are a couple turquoise ones. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/105975397462129141/

DH and I went around and around with front door color. I wanted plum, he wanted red. I never could get a plum mixed that I liked so we did a bright red and I love it.
