I have been thinking of doing the same thing to mine and had decided to try to use adhesive backed Velcro. I haven't done it yet so haven't hammered out any details but my thought was to adhere the Velcro to the vertical blind cover and to the back of the foam core board for the new cornice. If you go ahead and try it, please post. I am not going to be able to proceed with my ideas for some time but am interested in what you may come up with. Best wishes to you!
Thanks so much! I'm going to do this next week. If it I likeit and it goes as plannes, then I will be doing 4 more. Then my mother wants me to help with hers. LOL I will certainly let you know!
Here's a set of instructions including materials and costs:

It seems like it would work and be a lot easier to do since you've got a ready-made shape there!
Thanks. I was thinking the same thing, but I am going to make them bigger and then attach them to the cover. I guess I just needed someone else to reassure me.
Thanks so much for sharing. This is very helpful and encouraging !
I took my blind "cornice " off and like it so much better, but I can see where you could cover your cornice to make it like you want. The velcro sounds good to me.
My wheels are turning for sure!
This shows it being attached to a curtain rod .. same principle: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/windows-doors/windows/foam-cornice-valance-on-a-budget-28505916
Foam Cornice/Valance on a Budget!
I have done it with just fabric velcroed to the valance. I guess if the foam core and fabric aren't too heavy it would work. Otherwise, it might sag.

Thank you for sharing! I'm getting started this week and will post the finished product. Wish me luck! 😊
Well I did it! Making them was easy, but hanging them was really hard. I'm partially handicapped so my mom helped. I learned from my mistakes the first time so when I did the window it was much easier.
Here's the window and the door next to each other finished. Now on to the livingroom and bedroom. For these I think I will need to do wood because the doors are 8 feet wide so the cornices need to be 8.5 ft. The foam wood be too flimsy in the middle. I secured these with toothpicks, glue and duct tape.
