I have plywood walls in my 1942 home and I was wondering how to redo them without replacing them with drywall, etc. Any ideas?
You could add very thick crown molding, or old farm beams.
You could finish some wood to match the wood in your living room and create a beam like edge to cover the open space.
How about a picture, the description is not clear.
I would want to make sure the wall was safe before I tried to dismantle anything! Is there a room above the area that is a void? If so I would want to fill the void before covering it up. Better to be safe than sorry!
Please have that wall examined to be sure it is not supposed to be holding the beam up. If every thing is structurally fine, then use some kind of board or crown molding. I assume you are going to use plaster, fresco, stucco type treatment over some of the exposed brick, like in Italian and Mexican restaurants I have seen. Go for it--it should look fabulous! Best wishes 😇
ok so searching on the internet I found a picture of the house that the person who sold to the person I bought from. it looks like wood beams and brick. IMO its stunning from what I can see and I can't believe someone would have covered it, BUT I guess not everyone likes quirky stuff like I do.. The top was before the wall, the bottom is after.
I also wanted to add it looks like they may have raised the ceiling a little. I showed my husband the old pictures and he had me punch a hole on the edge where that old wood beam is showing (we have a giant B hanging there) and the wood beam is still there!!!!
