Love this cozy room! I like the idea of adding texture with bamboo blinds and full length drapery panels to finish off the window framing. Kinda like this....https://www.houzz.com/photos/1988844/Piedmont-Residence-traditional-living-room-san-francisco

I would go simple - if you need privacy then get some lovely sheer fabric (not cheap net curtains) then I would go for a full length curtain with dark tones - maybe even black. This will add to the luxury you already have in your room.
This may seem silly....I love letting in light yet still getting privacy. Purchase several floor to top of window bookcases screw together for stability. Shop the house for collectables place on shelves in pleasing positions, include framed family pictures
etc, etc. clean, lines no curtains and a really nice look. I did this on a kitchen window and included some flea market lamps with pretty shades. Chic and all for less than 100 bucks.
I just redid my living room windows. I had gold heavy curtains and switched to a lighter curtain print with grays/tans and a white background, which compliment almost any color furniture and wall. Believe me, I brought home something I like from every store I could think of, because you can't tell by looking at a sample or a book. It didn't take long to figure out my new style and returns are always easy with a receipt!
Thanks everyone...great ideas and I now feel empowered with ideas to go shopping with.
Get rid of the existing curtains and blinds. Buy a pretty statement piece curtain rod and get simple lightweight curtains with grommets in them. I did this in my family room. Actually bought the curtains from Home Goods at a very low price. I like to switch them out every once in a while. Simple and inexpensive. Makes the window and the light coming in the focal point of the room.
Nice looking room. If it were mine I would make, buy or have made floor length draperies, They would have a pattern and there would be no valance. If more was necessary to control light or block the view, I would have bamboo roll up shades on the windows, under the draperies. I would pick some colors out of the curtain fabric and have throw pillows made to complement the draperies. Good luck with your project! It's hard knowing what to do sometimes.
Consider plantation shutters custom made to fit each section of the window painted the color of your trim. Looks great from the street, very easy to clean, last forever and goes with almost any style. Surprisingly affordable!
Remove curtains and blinds. Run sheers across whole wall hanging from a ceiling track.
We have those verticals in our family room and love them for the way we can close them and open them to let in the light....I know they are not "in style" but I have also been thinking of something to replace them with. My ddl bought grommet drapes for hers and looks very nice and are easy to pull. I am not sure either, what I want. Maybe sheers on an inner rod and drapes on the outer rod...haven't looked yet.
