The problem with those "stick to wall" type is usually where you have to stick them. If there is a way to add a small piece of plywood to the middle of the shelf then sticking one in the middle of the closet will give better light and one above the door on the inside will light the top shelf.

Pulsetv.com is always coming up with various ideas; some worth it, some questionable. I have found great prices on things there...like the led light bulbs but that's different. The link I put in goes to some collapsable lanterns that may help you. They are doing some clearance right now so don't wait too long.
I had two of those little dome push lights, on the side of the closet wall and worked for years, other than having to put batteries in. http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-1-Light-White-Battery-Operated-Round-Mini-Tap-Light-55219/203794727?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-D27L-InteriorLighting%7c&gclid=Cj0KCQjw557NBRC9ARIsAHJvVVPCQWosJQLY4TC6Hp1ZREeQmgWsWTtUV0sxIvqQsWt74UWgpfqoWNUaAvk-EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CJXCnrO8gtYCFZCZfgod6yIGDw
Do you have ollies discount store in your area, if so they have stick lights like no other and are led lights, I've been using them in a closet and they gave light like a flood light. If you have a electric plug try rope lights.
Do you have an outlet close? I had one right outside my master bedroom closet. I bought a small lamp and just placed it on the shelf in the closet. Ran the cord to the outlet.
I bought a small LED flashlight that is bright and leave it in closet when I need to look for something. It works perfectly for me. Hope this helps you.
I bought a small motoon sensor light and attached it to the wall. You can even used an outdoor one. Works great. Goes off when you close the door.
If there is a ceiling light nearby?
Change this ceiling light to either a LED fixture, or one that can take screw-in LED lightbulbs. LED bulbs take only a fraction of the electricity that incandescent bulbs do.
Next, run wires encased in a narrow covering (it will look like a narrow pipe) along the ceiling into the closet, off of this existing ceiling fixture.
Attach a LED ceiling flush mount light weight light fixture, or a conventional flush mount (mounts on the outside of the ceiling; does not go up into the ceiling) that can take screw-in LED lightbulbs in the closet.
With this set up the light switch when turned on will operate both ceiling fixtures, the one in the room, and the one in the closet.
Although this may not be convenient, this set up is the only way that you can have a hard wired light fixture in the closet without doing any construction, or having to go up into the attic which is huge $$.
If there is a wall plug nearby to the closet, you could have a small lamp on a small shelf about 3/4 way up the height of the wall, or the height needed to shine light on your clothes. Use an LED lightbulb so that the lamp does not generate heat.
Another temporary way, which may or may not be your decorating style, is to string LED mini lights inside the closet.
