If you don't let the wood age, it may checker, crack and all your hard work maybe for nothing. You are supposed to use a draw knife down one side to remove a strip of bark, then it will crack there (where the bark was removed).

How do you clean oven racks to make them shiny again?
If their dirty with oven spatter, lay out some newspaper outside. Spray both sides, and put in a large plastic bag, and let it sit over night. Then rinse, and shine up with stainless steel cleaner. When you use your oven next let the smell burn off for about 10 minutes on 400 degrees. Good Luck!
