I always put mine in the shower and let it run over them. If they have faded I discard them and get more at the Dollar store. They have bouquets for $1 and large ones for $3
I gently swish my silk flowers in warm soapy water then rinse and put back in vase etc They always look brand new
You can wash silk flowers in warm water and a few drops of dish detergent. Maybe they are just dusty.
Hi Virginia, I always use a paint brush to clean mine, first I give them a good shake. After I get in all the tiny spits worth
I was taught to put salt in a paper bag with the silk flowers and shake it. it takes the dust off the flowers. Use the same bag/salt to do all of your silk flowers. Good luck!
spray with vodka and let dry.
I put my silk tree out on the back steps when it rains. If its not too bad, use a blowdryer to knock the dust off outside.
I take all my silk flowers in the house--- when I want to clean them----put them in a large kitchen trash bag--put about half of a container of regular Mortons table salt--and shake the heck out of them. You would be AMAZED at all the dirt and dust this takes off them. You'll see it in the salt that was white when you put it in there---and afterwards it's gray.
While I had read about the salt idea years ago, I never tried it as I really preferred actually washing my faux flowers (then rinsing) in warm sudsy water.
I use my laundry tub as some of the stems are long, then run about 6" of warm water, add dishwashing liquid then lay the stems in the water. I let them soak for five or ten minutes then go back and gently press the stems (with the palm of my hand) in an up-and-down motion. This stirs around the water and helps loosen any dust and dirt.
I get ready to pull the plug BUT before I do, I carefully feel around under the suds for any loose petals, leaves or stamens as you don't want to call a plumber in for a plugged drain! Once the sudsy water is gone, I gently rinse, again watching for any loose bits, then shake the stem a bit and lay on a clean towel to dry. You can easily pop back on any loose petals, etc. They dry in a flash and are ready to go back in the vases. The colors look much brighter when I'm done!
