I just wash and spray with vinegar or vodka.
Also boiling them in water with a drop of dish soap then rinse and let dry.
Your best bet would be to simply sterilize it in hot water. You wouldn't want to use any chemical cleaners, as cork is absorbent. Most woods (cork is actually a tree bark) discourage bacteria life. For instance, studies have shown that wood cutting boards are not a good host for bacteria. If you keep them clean by wiping them with a damp cloth, and perhaps lemon juice or vinegar wipe after cutting meat, chicken or fish, they do not 'cross contaminate' to other foodstuffs.
Hot water and denture tabs for cleaning. Boil water and soak the jar in it about 5-10 minutes to sterilize it.
Put some bleach and water in a bucket and put the jar down in it for a day. Rinse well with hot soapy water and you should be good to go. Bleach will kill any germs or dirt you have on your jar.
White vinegar is non Toxic and completely safe!
