On wooden cabinets the best thing I have found is restore a finish. I put on clean dry cloth and wipe. It will cut the grease as well as make the wood look great again.
I coat the surface with Dawn blue or Dawn ultra dish soap then gently, using a circular motion, rub it into the "gook" with a wet nylon scrubber or rough sponge. Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse and wipe off with warm water and a sponge. Finish with an oil or wax-based polish depending upon the surface. (Around stoves, you may want to use pledge or other wax based product , if possible, to keep the grease or steam from setting into the wood).
Every time I clean my mirrors, they end up having tons of streaks and almost look worse than before I started. What could I use to clean them that won't leave streaks...

recently moved in my b/f's grandmothers house after she passed away it was left to him and has never been painted and has years of grease and grime on everything

TSP or Krud Kutter are the two cleaners I've had the most luck with. The other one is called Awesome, which can be gotten at the dollar store.
Murphy's Oil Soap is my go to.
