My favourite would be a driftwood coloured "shiplap" above the fireplace and a thick mantle, stained another colour from the stone or dark.
OR everything painted out in charcoal gray:

Is the fireplace wood burning, or gas? Do not mount the TV over a wood burning fireplace because of the heat. Most gas inserts have fans that blow the heat out into the room. In most cases the gas insert manufacturers recommend mounting the TV at least 35 inches from the bottom of the heating unit. Then mount a few shelves on the wall to display cherished items. Vary the length of the shelves and stagger them to keep the wall from looking "blocky".
Perhaps, white-wash or even grey-wash the brick. Paint the top wood. I think it would be a great part of a room decor! Just brighten it up!
Can you beef up the mantel making it larger? Paint the stone a lighter shade. A nice mantel is a focal point in the room. You can certainly put the TV over it and decorate the mantel with candles in interesting holders...
Hang the tv on the wall. Paint the wall a contrasting color and hang a couple of floating shelves on either side of the tv and decorate how you desire. This would give some texture to the wall. If you hang pictures, they have the same as the tv, flat.
I love the idea of doing builtins on top and then having the tv center. Adding the barn doors to cover the tv/ builtins. The shiplap would also look really nice.
What did you end up doing with the wall/fireplace I have the same set up and wanted to paint it white. Would love to see what you did. Please email me at Smits5@icloud.com
Hi Susan. I painted the fireplace. Then my husband made me a huge framed mirror that’s framed in reclaimed barn wood. Then a couple of large sconces flank the mirror. They are also mounted on barn wood. You can see the painted stone here.
