What is your experience with carpentry? Do you have all the necessary tools?
While it is possible to make a Murphy Bed yourself, before you go ahead and start buying anything, I would suggest that you price the total cost of diy- all tools and materials first. This way you will be in a more informed position to decide whether to buy a ready made one or diy.
There are a couple of ways to hide a bed against a wall. You can build a cabinet and buy the Murphy bed hardware but before you do that go to You Tube and watch some videos. There is a warning that is stuck in my head about installing M'bed hardware and getting hurt by the springs. It may be simpler for you to buy a cabinet that is already a M'bed and just install it. I don't think it is a good first wood working project if that is where you are, but if you do it you should post it.
Hello Wanda Ham :) You ARE an ambitious woman! :) There are 2 links below. The first one is the article about how she made her Murphy bed -- lots of pictures too -- and the second link is actually a PDF of the FREE plans and directions (and if it doesn't open correctly, although it should, there is a link at the end of the article for you to click on to access the free plans PDF). Good Luck Wanda and thank you for asking HOMETALK for help :)
