can you get into the new place? If so make your own measurements of the different rooms...plot them out on graph paper. Also measure the furniture that you are moving. Plot out on graph paper. Now, cut out the furniture shapes and arrange the furniture for the new place. A sign your rooms numbers. Label the furniture with the room number it's to go in to.pack your kitchen last....it should be first off the truck. Your fridge and freezers will need to stand for 24 h befor you plug them in. It has to do with bubbles in the Freeon.. you will need a few coolers and maybe dry ice.
if you don't 'use' it every month, get rid of it; if it's of deeply sentimental value - pick your top 10 favorites; keep them and take pictures of the others, and write a little bit of history about 'Aunt Emma's Rocking Chair' ...
Packing -- color code and number your boxes. I get a box of cheap crayolas. Say Red 1, is for all the kitchen stuff you really need, coffee pot, everyday dishes, utensils. Mark all those boxes thusly. But only the stuff you need immediately. Have only red 1, 1a, 1b, etc. put in the kitchen. Everything else goes into boxes white 2 for the kitchen. The sheets, pillows, blankets for your beds, Green 1. Everything else for the bedrooms in Green 2. Have beds set up and the Green 1 boxes put in bedroom 2. If you have a garage, every other box (color coded and numbered by room) are grouped and put there. If no garage, all boxes go into the living room, again grouped together. Make sure that the boxes least important (I always mark these with a black x) go against a wall first or in front of the couch. By the time I get to the X boxes sometimes I realize I never needed that stuff at all and get rid of it. Good luck on your move!
It's difficult emotionally to downsize. I'm working on it even though we're not moving because of the stuff that was left after my parents' death...that was a nightmare I don't want to gift my adult kids with. Basically I'm working room by room, making two piles; Love It and Lose It. Then going through the Love It pile again. My husband is kind of a hoarder/ packrat so I'm going through my possessions first. Then whatever's left has to have a place it belongs or it has to go to a "new home", not stored. Good luck!
First clear out. If you don’t love it, don’t pay to move it. label your boxes and keep a list of what you put in each box. Start packing early. You have more than you think. Also, make sure you use medium boxes so they can be lifted when full. Good luck
After you have decided what you don't want to move, offer it to your kids or other family members and friends, especially those who love to refurbish furniture. Then call a charity and donate the rest of the usable things, and don't think twice about tossing the rest!
I recommend to read this article - https://lexelmoving.com/be-careful-with-that-box/ with this information you can avoid common mistakes people make during the moving process and make it less grueling. Also there are some more useful articles about moving and relocation.
Use towels, clean rags, facecloths to wrap dishes. Blankets are good for framed pictures. Pack early and put the boxes in the back of closets so you won't feel like your home is disrupted any sooner than it really will be.
I recommend contacting this moving company. Here are the most favorable conditions for packing services in Boston.
