It depends on what you like. Do good prep. White and shades of gray are very popular right now.
We love Behr paint semi gloss. It holds up so nice. It also lasts a long time. Clean your cupboards with TSP first. It will take all the grease and grime off and you will not have to sand.
Use primer, then a good latex / acrylic paint. Or even a chalk paint which you can make yourself and skip the primer. You must finish with a polyurethane varnish and use many coats (4_5) for protection and wear.
If you use an oil based paint, you can easily wash them later.
Im a fan of chalk paint!
I really like latex enamel because it's low odor, easy to clean paint tools and holds up to washing well
