look into strippers for removing paint from wood cabinets and you may have to do some light sanding as well
I prefer Citristrip to remove paint. Removing the doors helps so you are working on a horizontal surface. May take more than one application. After you lift off the gunk (paint) clean the surface to remove any residue. Then, let it dry thoroughly. Then sand it to remove as much as you can. If you plan to paint again, remove as much as you can using both methods until you have a level surface. A sealer before repainting is well worth the work.
