I use "the works" toilet bowl cleaner, but don't buy the one that says basic. Buy the more expensive one which is about $4. After you put it in, let it sit for a little while. I have not found anything this will not get out.
Thwre is a great product sold on Amazon or at the har store called a heavy duty scouring stick. It is actually a pumice stone. It just scrubs those stains right off. Very cheap non toxic solution to the problem. I have been using these for years.
Pumice stone.....
denture tablets. Put a couple in before you go to bed, do not flush, leave to soak overnight. You may have to do a couple of times and use a brush also to loosen if it is bad.
pour bleach and let it soak for at least 30 minutes....hopefully you have another bathroom! then just scrub with whatever you use regularly
Pour white vinegar in bowl and leave over night. Use toilet brush.
I keep reading that coke will do it.
