For a small old kitchen I am leaning toward the linoleum or vinyl sheeting. Sounds old fashioned but more practical in this small area.

Porcelain tile! It's cheap and very durable, and you could learn to lay it yourself.

Start with water proof tiles 12x12. You can purchase the tiles by the box, I think it has 20 to each. Check the lot #,s on each box and make sure their the same, and buy one extra box for mistakes or repair. Measure the room, take your measurements to Homedepot or Lowe's and they will tell you how many boxes you need. You start from the middle of the floor, and work outward towards the walls. Each tile has an arrow on the back that tells you which way to lay that piece. The tiles can range in price from $.99- $7.99 each tile, the higher the price the better the tile. Don't get one that has any indentations, this is a great way for the tile to rip. They come with a glossy finish if you want it. Wash with dish liquid or Murphy's oil soap to get a nice shine. Good Luck!

I definitely don't like the wood floor in my kitchen. It is a darker color and shows EVERYTHING. Has also dented when something heavy (like the edge of a can) has fallen on it,

Use vinyl plank. It's waterproof and easy on your legs and feet. Looks like wood flooring and comes in a wide range of colors.

Pros n cons of different flooring types for kitchen:

Carpet- pros: warm on bare feet

Cons: dirt, grease stains, clean up is a pain

Ceramic tiles- pros: easy clean up, sturdy, long lasting

Cons: grout will collect dirt from cleaning and darken, cold on feet, can crack if heavy item dropped on it

Vinyl tiles- pros: easy to install, easy clean up, usually less expensive

Cons: can come unglued, wears out in high traffic areas

    Hope this helps!!
