Go to your local nursery and see what they are selling. They are the best shrubs to grow in your area.
Crepe Myrtles are native to the area and come in several colors. Keep trimmed after blooming and they will make great shrubs.

Sorry, Carolyn...the reason I answered this way is because you may get lots of suggestions of plants that others find beautiful that may not thrive or even die off in your region. You can order ANYTHING by internet or catalog that others suggest but if they don't sell it locally it's usually because the stores are afraid the plants will die and get returned....so they sell stock that grows successfully where you live...that's why I answered the way I did
