I would look into a non slip runner for the stairs. good luck :)
Just don"t go down barefoot, you need to use stairthreads or carpeting.
Individual non-slip stair mats to put on each tread. Easier to clean than a runner.
i'm not fond of carpet on stairs...i would put down a non skid tape or secured treads.
Non-skid tape is the easiest!
