Hi, Here's a link that may help! http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-Very-Messy-Room
Good luck!
Start by removing everything but large furniture. Then sort, keep what is needed or brings joy, other stuff goes to yard sale or donations. I just did this for one of our sheds. It's hard work, no lie, but very rewarding.
To clean "piles of stuff" you need to ask yourself if you have used any of it in the past year. If yes, put it in a pile to keep. If no, put it in a pile to remove from the house. Now for the pile to remove from the house sort according to: give away, throw away, donate to charity, yard sale quality. Throw away anything not worth selling or giving away. Take the rest to your nearest 2nd hand shop or charity and donate it. If it is truly good quality, sell it in a yard sale. Whatever you keep, be sure to have a place to organize it into a dresser, storage cabinet, or baskets neatly in a spare closet or room. If there is too much to put away, you need to purge more of it from your home. We have a rule about yard sales, "whatever does not sale does not go back in the house." We take it to charity.
ger 3 baskets or boxes. Label keep.....donate........garbage. Go into the room. Turn to your left start wth the top of the pile. If it's clothing does it fit you now. Or is it after I try this diet...donate or t to consign ment store. Keep only what fits you now. If it needs major repair, toss. Paper stuff? Toss old news paper, take old magazine to the donate box. Mail? Toss the junk mail keep the sentimental letters.
Ask yourself...when was the last time I used/ wore that? More than a year....you prob don't need it. Do the one wall. Take a days break. Go donate. Next day do another wall.
The room didnt get get to the state it's in over night. It's not going to get organized over night.
Downsize!!! I go through our house every once in a while and donate whatever we no longer need. We collect so much useless stuff without realizing!
