Depending on how high the top is, you can add some pretty brackets to hold an overhang. You can paint or stain to match some of the other wood in your kitchen (like your cabinets).
Get a nice piece of wood to match your cabinets and use some hinges to attach under the bar top so it is even when you raise it up. You can also get bars that slide out from under your existing bar to attach the piece of wood so when you lift it up it will stay. That way you could drop it down when not using it. Kind of like the dining room tables that have the sides that drop down. Kind of hard to explain my vision.
YOU WOULD NEED TO USE METAL STRAPS TO HOLD A BLOCK OF WOOD THAT YOU COULD TILE OR FINISH TO MATCH IN WITH YOUR SCHEME. iF STRAPS ARE NOT SUITABLE THEN USE BRACKETS AND OR A LEG OR TWO.
