Often these are replaced if they are torn. You can use Dap roof sealant or Henry wet patch.
You have to purchase different size shingles, and use a nail gun. Do you know if your roof is a overlay? This is shingles on top of shingles, or does your roof have one layer of shingles? Let us know, so we can help. EJL.

They would need to be replaced once damaged. They are usually cut from a three tab shingle so you get three pieces out of one shingle. Or remove one carefully and use it as a template. Use 1 1/2" galvanized roofing nails to nail them down and they overlap covering the nails.
