Are you sure it is just how the stain "takes" on the wood? If the finish is in good shape nothing to worry about.
They sell 'wood pens' with different shades in a pack. You kinda just color it in over the darker spots, rub quickly to blend in and that will minimize the darker spots. We've done it on our kitchen cabinets and you can't tell we did anything to the wood. Use a 'light touch' though because too much will be noticeable.
I think it is drops of stain or varnish. not worrying . I am selling it for my daughter and if buyers notice anything I will act as you suggest Thank you
