Mold, Fungi and Bacteria from Hurricane Harvey

My sister-in-law had the lower half of her house filled with water from hurricane Harvey. As soon as it was safe they had a professional come in to take out all of the wall board and start the clean up. I honestly don't know what more we can tell you if you know what to do. My only suggestion is to move out of the house until it's safe. I also know that just bleach won't do it. I wish you only the best and hope your home can be fully restored soon.

If you have interior mold, please contact your insurance ASAP! Professional mold remediation is required.

I am so sorry your house flooded. Make sure the house is dry, dry, dry, before putting up any drywall. I've got my fingers crossed that we never see another one like that again. The end of hurricane season can't come soon enough.

Ask your lawyer to write them a letter putting them on notice that this will escalate to bringing suit against them, filing complaints with the insurance oversight agencies, etc. It is part of their contract with you to follow through on all claims using the industry's latest methodologies. (alternatively, write your own letter using legal terms and show Cc: to your atty.)

Also contact FEMA to request any and all assistance with the insurance claim.

Kathleen, I've been thinking about you and your situation with your insurance company. I'd like to suggest that you call them back and tell them that you need a proper inspection and let them know what was not done. If they give you a hard time, a letter to your State Attorney General's office might get some action. I've done it twice before and both times I got what I wanted. I almost had to do it a third time, but when the insurance company wouldn't cooperate (my contractor found damage that they missed) I simply said. "Okay, so you're telling me that because your inspector missed some damage our insurance won't cover it, That's fine, I'll send you a copy of the letter I write to the New York State Attorney General's office." Suddenly they approve it. :)

You can use an air purifier to remove airborne mold, bacteria, and more. We suggest using a HEPA air purifier to remove mold, and a UV-C light air purifier to remove bacteria/viruses.
