If no children are in the home you could use (moth balls) just put in the wood chips and cover with chips. : ) cats don't like the smell.
I use plastic bottles filled with water by the front gates it stopped them entering. They do this in Spain. Cats don’t like to see their reflection.
If the weather is nice and dry I used half-styrofoam cup and poured white vinegar in it they stayed away from the smell when the urinate in the house keep a small spray bottle of white vinegar spray that area they won't go back
