what type of bug is snacking on your veggies? Different snackers may need different deterants. Snail will guzzle beer, grass hoppers will eat the leaves...but not with red pepper spray. Hot red peppers. Or...try this and let me know if it works or not...1tbs.dishwashing detergent, 1 cup fresh cooking oil, use 4 tsp of concentrate to 1 pint of water put in spray bottle. Aphids,white flies, and spider mites . Spray generously to all parts of the plant.

if you use a bug killing agent be sure to wash/ rinse the veggies before nibbling on them. you might not see the powder but a residue is left.

Dish soap and water. I spray my garden vegetables with it, bugs don't like it. May not kill them, they tend to leave the vegetables alone.
For soft bodied bugs, a mixture of dish soap with water, takes VERY little soap for a hand spray bottle. Doesn't need to be soapy to kill bugs. You can also buy insecticidal soap at garden centers. Rotenone is good for crunchy bugs. Bacillus thuringiensis is good for worms and caterpillars.
