I would look into replacing the glass shades
Look around for open weave baskets to replace the shades. Possibly could even find an oblong shape basket for the double light.
I have one of those... I took it down and carefully masked off the glass.. inside and out... and then used a oiled bronze spray paint on the metal parts... even the chain... makes it look much better... YOU could remove the glass and surround the center with a drum shade to up date it... you might have to custom make one for the larger fixture
The glass could also be frosted, stenciled or decoupaged
I would just remove the glass shades. Then paint the rest of the lamps, including the chains a color of your preference..
I have one of those with the candle bulbs. Is it the candle bulbs, besides the color of brass that makes it look outdated?
Try covering the chain with conduit/pvc pipe. I sprayed ours silver/aluminum, the ceiling cap, and the bulb base. too.
no.... but I can take some
These hanging light fixtues with all their ubiquitous parts- chains, bevelled glass, and chandelier bulbs, were such a buildergrade standard that now they have become terribly dated.
Diane, I agree even if you tried to paint out the brass, they would still be fixtures from the late 80's.
To spend money with replacement parts, then time in trying to get them to retrofit the fixtures, might not meet with expecations either.
