Try rubbing vicks vapor rub on them
Put red pepper and water in spray bottle, spray pumpkins. If it rains, you will need to repeat.
this year I handpainted faces on mine...instead of carving...and finished with clear acrylic glaze. So far..the skurrels have NO interest! I think the carving brings out the inticing smell of a meal. They are not attracted to the glaze smell.
