Decoration depends on your color schemes. But for the paint, you can't beat Krylon for Plastics. Don't do it inside though unless you are using brush on.

Spray paint for plastic, comes in lots of colors, at home stores. Not knowing layout of the room, what colors and furniture you already have, it is hard to make suggestions. But work around colors in your bedspread, wall art or favorite items and collections. Have fun decorating.
I would use Krylone plastic spray paint. and I think Rustoleum has a plastic paint now too. Wash real well to remove all grease, smoke etc., let dry before you paint. You could also highlight certain details using a metallic antique rub on raised areas after you get the base coat done.

I would use chalk paint (white or grey) then use either black wax or black glaze to highlight the 'carved' pieces. This would also look smart with French linen and black glaze too.
For myself I would go Cream, White or a richer brown colour - more Mahogany or Dark Oak!
