Steam and and scape is this most common action. Laborious though no matter what method . There is product called deft i believe the name is, check at home depot works well.
Use a damp sponge then razor cut it off. Or some people use hair dryers.
That said, are you sure you need to? You can paint over it and not risk hurting the walls. This might help.

first score it with hand scorer at any paint store, then spray with warm water and let sit for 1min. Then scrape off.
if you paint over it, it will be twice as hard to get off later.
My preferred method is steaming. Score the walls till your arms want to fall off. Then steam away. Here are a couple links to help you out.
