If the steps are structurally sound, the next step is to correct the cracks. Wood filler to fill the cracks, sand and stain to match or paint.
If the cracks are small, make sawdust of matching color wood, mix it with a bit of wood glue, and putty knife it smoothly in the cracks. I have also cut a thick sliver to fill a crack if needed.
You'll need new boards, measure them and go to Homedepot or Lowe's, and they will cut you the size you need, and the wood you need. Also you could use wood glue, but that would look sloppy.
i like this idea, but I am tr to figure out how to round out the edges in front.
How handy are you? There are a number of ways to repair it-- using wood glue, drilling into the tread and using a dowel, stepped dowel, or screw to fix the tread or replace the tread. https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=A0LEV0sdx.NZEcYAoD1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=how+to+replace+wooden+step+treads&fr=yset_ff_syc_hp#id=4&vid=b87d23aed3c19ed08e9c4a1c25abaaf1&action=view
Certainly if the piece seems to be as loose as it is in the video, you need to glue the piece back into place and support it with dowels or screws. If you go with screws, go with real wood screws (not drywall screws) or a heavy-duty screw like Tapcon.
