I have found that something like a laundry basket or especially collapsible crate works well to hold grocery stuff in the plastic bags.. and the collapsible ones fold flat and can be stored in the back. (I normally take the re-usable bag which have a bit more structure... and hold more stuff.
Hello! My mom always had an empty cardboard box in her trunk and she could fit a couple of bags of groceries in it — the box prevented the bags from falling over. She also had an insulated bag in the trunk where she put frozen items like ice cream or bags of frozen vegetables. I don’t know about the hook you mention, but my Mom’s ideas worked really well and I thought they might help you until you found what you are looking for!
