Carpenter bees can cause real damage to siding. If they are honey bees, they will colonize and make quite a honey mess bringing other bugs in to get the honey and even rodents. The rodents will prey on the boxelder bugs, but yuck! I suggest you get a pro out to look at the trees close to the house and the siding to determine a course of action. Good luck.

We had an infestation of box elder bugs at our last house. One side would be totally covered during the hot summer months. The house had aluminum siding. I mixed Dawn dishwashing soap and water in a 32 oz. spray bottle (you only need about 4 tablespoons) and sprayed them several times a week. It doesn’t hurt the siding and it killed the bugs. I also sprayed Ortho Home Defense around the whole outside perimeter of the house which helped keep them from coming inside.
