Is Creeping Charlie in your lawn a good thing or a bad thing?
Is there a sure-fire way to get rid of Creeping Charley?
When I had exactly the same problem a Master Gardener's suggestion was "move your garden". The roots go down as much as 15 feet. They reproduce by runners (plant and roots), seeds, and any other way a plant can reproduce. I eventually sprayed them with weed killer and let my garden rest for a season. Seemed to work, but I still had some coming up from seeds. It's the worst weed I ever tackled. Good luck!
Hmmm..and I can't get them to grow..
I believe that they produce a large root similar to a potato or a tuber of some kind. If you don't dig it up, it will keep sending out more shoots. I must confess that I planted one some years ago, and my neighbor on the other side of the wall managed to kill it, but it can still be seen at my neighbor's down the block.
Keep pulling them up. They're reseeding themselves.
Be aware of the roots if you pull them out and you have a dog. I have a yorkie poo and I pulled a bunch of morning glories out by the roots and threw them on a pile. I did not know the roots are deadly poisonous to dogs. My baby grabbed some and ran around the yard and made a mess with them as I was pulling them out. She ended up in the hospital for a week, very critical for 3 days and then after the vet said she was poisoned I did research on line with all my plants and outside blooming flowers and morning glory roots caught my eye. The vet said that most definitely could have been the cause. It took her 3 weeks to recover, after not eating anything for a week but an IV, she was on vanilla yogart and cottage cheese for a week and a half.
